E que o português e o inglês possuem a mesma família linguística? Nesta atividade, a jornalista e professora de inglês, Bebeth Soares, conduzirá um passeio pela história da língua inglesa – desde os celtas, passando pelos vikings, normandos, até a criação dos primeiros dicionários e a expansão da língua pelo mundo, por meio da colonização. Em um encontro informal, Bebeth buscará trazer à tona curiosidades e conexões – por vezes simples mas sempre interessantes – desse idioma tão presente na atualidade.
The origins of the English language are closely connected with the history of England; and its evolution, with world history. Today one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, English is part of the daily lives of millions of people. However, did you know that most English words are derived from Latin? And that Portuguese and English have the same linguistic family? In this activity, the journalist and English teacher, Bebeth Soares, will lead a walk through the history of the English language – from the Celts, through the Vikings, Normans, until the creation of the first dictionaries and the expansion of the language throughout the world, as a consequence of colonization. At this informal gathering, Bebeth aims to bring up curiosities and connections – sometimes simple but always interesting – of English, such a present tongue in this day and age.
